she would wake in the night
to find angels standing
at the foot of her bed,
eyes glowing,
arms outstretched to enfold her
she dreamt of sea sirens
singing her name,
soft white arms
reaching up from the depths
to pull her down
she walked in gardens
of poisonous red flowers
she played in dark enchanted forests
of trees that danced & sang
& ate, too,
when they were hungry
she drank from a wishing well
that whispered secrets
she swam in a pond,
legs tangling in the hair
of drowned children
floating at the bottom
she danced to the song
of a jewel box
found in the attic,
a musical jewel box
filled with glass eyes
of every hue
